May 13, 2023 — Vilnius proudly announces the opening of Europe’s largest next-generation vertical greens farm «Leafood», able to provide fresh salads and herbs grown locally all year round. As of May 12, the farm’s first harvest will be available at «Iki» stores. 1,000 kilograms of crisp lettuce and herbs grown in the new vertical farm will reach the shelves of «Iki» stores throughout Lithuania every day.
«Leafood» utilizes innovative technology developed by the YesHealth Group in Taiwan. Leafood greens grow in mineral-enriched water without the use of any pesticides, herbicides or other harmful substances.
Vertical farms eliminate the impact of changing weather conditions and can yield up to 200 times more crops than traditional farms. Indoor farming reduces water usage by up to 95 percent, relying solely on green, renewable electricity, while avoiding pollution from harmful substances and pesticides.
Managed by a joint Lithuanian-Taiwanese team with previous experience in building vertical farms, «Leafood» received initial financing of €6.45 million in June 2022 from the YesHealth Group, Danish businessman Niels Peter Pretzmann living in Lithuania and another private investor.
«Leafood» sets a new standard in sustainable and accessible fresh greens supply, catering to the growing demand for healthy and locally sourced produce.
